REMARKABLE STORY ABOUT IRAQI WHO HELPED SAVE JESSICA LYNCH
Mohammed watched as the man slapped the American woman with his open palm, then again with the back of his hand. In that instant, Mohammed recalled today, he resolved to do something. The next day, when the man in black was not around, Mohammed sneaked in to see the young woman. "Don't worry, don't worry," he told her. He was going to help.

ANARCHY IN STREETS REPORTED
When US troops took Safwan on the second day of the war, their officials reported that the first town they had occupied in southern Iraq had given them a warm welcome.
Since then, though, the mood in Safwan has become hostile and anarchic. After members of the government administration fled, gangs of looters took to the streets. Youths began to appear as if from nowhere, to lob bricks and stones at passing cars. But nobody in the British or American forces feels able to take responsibility.
The UK's Colonel Paul Stanley in Umm Qasr, says: "We are simply lacking the people. Military police are more desperately needed in the north."

BELGIUM LEGALIZES CANNABIS SMOKING
Belgian politicians have voted to make it legal for adults to smoke cannabis and possess small amounts of the drug. However, selling the drug will remain illegal. The new law will allow adults to possess up to five grams of cannabis for personal use, so long as they don't smoke it in front of children or teenagers or end up disturbing the peace in the process.
